The Great Dane, Great Pyrenees, and Greyhounds: Things to Know



 Let us start first in knowing what is great about the Great Dane. It is a German breed of the domestic dog and it is known for being a large sized dog. They are also known with their massive body and tall height. Actually, the world’s tallest dog record holder is a Great Dane which is named as Zeus. Despite their size, Great Danes are very friendly and loving to their owners.  They are usually dubbed to be the most powerful, elegant and dignified dog because of the muscular built of their body, and they are often well-balanced in everything. They are only short haired dogs but have a great leg strength power. They are usually square in shape from the ratio of its length and height. Surely, the Great Dane is some kind of a dog that one can surely be interested for. Year to year, the recorded tallest living dog are usually a Great Dane. The male usually have a larger frame and heavier bones compared to the female one. Most of them naturally have triangular, soft and floppy ears. In the past, this dog has been used to hunt boars giving them out some cuts in their ears, and being a tradition, it is usually done to most of the breed of Great Danes nowadays. Classifying the colors of a Great Dane is quite strict and there are only acceptable colors to be considered and these are fawn, brindle, blue, black, harlequin and mantle. Great Danes also has its own variety, the Great Dane (Euro) and the Great Dane (US), even both are just same Great Danes, they still differ in some characteristics and in their breeding lines.
The Great Danes (Euro) tends to be stouter and has shorter nose, they also have thicker leg bones and are not often getting sick, while the Great Dane (US) has a thinner and more showing built figure with longer face and doesn’t drools as much as the other does. On the other hand, there is also the Great Pyrenees or commonly called Pyrenean mountain dog. It is a large kind of dog that is used as a guardian dog for livestock. It is a very old breed that has been already used by shepherds even hundreds of years ago. They are naturally nocturnal and very active in regards with any predators that could harm the flock. They have a natural guardian instinct that can be trusted even with the small, helpless, and young animals in any kind. They can surely be a good help. In regards with the Greyhound, it is a European breed that is said to be bred for racing and coursing games. It loves and intelligent kind of dog with long, deep chest, very powerful legs, slim body and flexible legs that has a race speed of eighteen meters per second. They have a very short fur that can be easily maintained. They are not actually an aggressive dogs and some believes that it was because they are wearing muzzles in their races to avoid sniffing of the smells of the other dogs to avoid dog fights.
